The heart of the
work lies in the sound piece, an auditory immersion that guides the
viewer through a 25-minute journey within what I call my “mental
palace.” This mental palace, a concept borrowed from memorization and
meditation techniques, is an imaginary space where every detail is a
metaphor for the thoughts, emotions, and memories that intertwine to
form consciousness. To compose the soundscapes, I used recordings of my
own brainwaves captured during this introspective meditation. These
recordings were then processed to create sound textures that oscillate
between soothing tones and more dissonant vibrations, reflecting the
natural fluctuations of the mind in meditation.
The physical elements of the sculpture are connected by string,
symbolizing the subtle and sometimes fragile connections between the
different sections of the mental palace. Megaphragma thus invites the
viewer to a dual experience: an immersion into an abstract mental space
through the materiality of the sculpture and an introspective sound
journey that evokes the complexity of states of consciousness. By
combining visual and sound arts, this work offers a reflection on the
nature of the mind, meditation, and how inner experiences can be
translated into forms and sounds perceptible to others.
